PUNE, Sept 11: The station health officer, Pune has banned selling of food and drinks by vendors without authorisation in the Cantonment area in wake of the detection of a cholera case in Solapur Bazaar area.

Pune Cantonment Board chief executive officer J. Sharma today said all necessary steps were being taken to prevent the spread of cholera.

A woman from Solapur Bazaar, who tested positive, has been discharged from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel General Hospital. Mahajan said despite CEO’s directives, garbage was still lying unattended.

The CEO said the woman’s residence had been disinfected. The eateries in Solapur Bazaar had been checked and water samples from the house and nearby public taps clinically examined. The culture report was satisfactory and there was no possibility of an outbreak of cholera, he said.

After the preventive measures taken, the area was once again open for troops and their families from September 12, he said.
