NANDED, SEPT 15: The situation in the city, which had been witnessing widespread violence since Tuesday, was tense but under control today, barring a few incidents of stone pelting in old city areas, police said.

Arson and stabbing had continued for the third day yesterday in the city, which observed a total bandh in response to a call given by Shiv Sena in protest against an attack on a Ganesh immersion procession from a place of worship on Tuesday and subsequent police firing.

Curfew was reimposed in communally sensitive old city areas yesterday from 7 pm onwards and in other parts from 10 pm onwards.

Meanwhile, Revenue Minister Ashok Chavan, who has been camping here for the last three days, told PTI today that the situation is under control and limping back to normalcy.

He said common man faced inconvenience due to the bandh and most of the political parties were making efforts to restore normalcy in the town.

To a question Chavan said groups with quot;vested interestquot; had instigated the riot to discredit the government.
