
Hearing of defamation against Thackeray postponed
The hearing of a defamation case filed by city Samajwadi Party president Abu Asim Azmi against Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has been posted to June 18. The case, filed by Azmi six months ago, pertained to an article in the Sena mouthpiece
, in which Thackeray alleged that 8220;Azmi8217;s hands were tainted with the blood of victims of the 1993 bomb blasts here8221;. The matter came up in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate A A Kidwai today. In the absence of the judge, the date for the next hearing has been fixed till after the court vacation.
LAN in Mantralaya
The desk offices of Mantralaya will soon be linked by a Local Area Network LAN, even as tests for linking 45 V-sat nodes in district offices with the Mumbai offices are in progress. The state8217;s Information Technology IT task force chairperson Prakash Jawdekar said the government intends to use video-conferencing and e-mail extensively to make communication faster and more accessible to citizens. This will bring about transparency in functioning and reduce bureaucratic hassles, he claimed, adding that all government orders and resolutions will also be put on the net.
Air-India acquires ISO-9002
Air-India was today presented the International Organisation of Standardisation ISO 9002 certification for its ground services by J Venkataraman, additional Director General Bureau of Indian Standards, at a function at mumbai. M P Mascarenchas, A-I managing director, received the certificate. The national carrier is amongst the few airlines in Asia to be awarded the certification.
