Indra Kumar gets bail
Additional sessions Judge Abhay Thipsay today granted anticipatory bail to film director Indra Kumar, producer Anil Sharma and four other family members who were named in a police complaint lodged with the Oshiwara police station by Sharma’s wife, Keerty.
Anil Sharma, his mother Sarla, brother Bharatbhushan, who is an advocate, sister-in-law Prema, sister Bina and her husband Indra Kumar were released on a bail of Rs 5000 each. They have been directed to report to the police station as and when required. Keerty in her complaint had accused her in-laws of physically harassing and torturing her and making repeated monetary demands.
The Oshiwara police said the accused have been visiting the police station as directed by the judge for the purpose of investigation, and it is not required that they be detained in custody.
Special Public Prosecutor Vidya Kalse in her submissions told the court that the say filed by the Investigation Officer is inconsistent with his previousstand.
New diocese at VasaiPope John Paul II has erected a new diocese of Vasai and has appointed Bishop Thomas Dabre as its first bishop, as per a release. The new diocese covers an area of 7.596 square kms and comprises Vasai, Bhiwandi, Shahapur, Wada, Jawhar, Palghar, Talasari, Mokhada and Dahanu in Thane district. The total population of the new diocese is 2.314.425, of these 107.119 are Catholics.
NCERT’s poster competition
The United Nations population Fund and the National Centre for Educational and Research Training have jointly organised an international poster contest with the theme being `Generation Living Together.’ The contest is open to people above the age of six. The National Health Management Institute (NHMI) has invited applications for the academic year 1998-99 for its one-year part-time diploma course on Hospital and Health Care Management (Regular batches and correspondence). The course will commence on July 13. The eligibility criterion is graduation from any discipline with preference given to doctors, pathologists, paramedics and laboratory technicians.
