Illegal mining is continuing unabated in Majri Block under Kharar tehsil of Mohali district, exposing the claims of the Punjab government and district administration, alleged BJP leader Vineet Joshi, after inspecting mining sites, along with the party’s Majri Mandal president Mohit Gautam and local villagers.

Speaking at the mining site in Miyapur Changar village, Joshi said, “Fresh excavation marks, visible JCB tyre impressions, movement tracks of tippers and soft, freshly dug soil clearly prove that illegal mining has taken place here recently. These visuals directly contradict official claims by the police and the mining department that no illegal mining is currently happening in the Majri block and that only old sites exist.”

Attacking AAP MLA Anmol Gagan Mann, Joshi said, “Despite being very vocal on smaller issues, the MLA remained silent on illegal mining for nearly four years. Even now, when BJP has been running a sustained campaign against the mining mafia, the ruling MLA has limited herself to a tweet and considers her responsibility over.”

“Ruling party MLAs are expected to act, and not to behave like the Opposition on the social media,” Joshi said, alleging that illegal “mining is still ongoing and villagers believe the mining mafia is paying huge monthly amounts to district-level officials and political representatives.”

Throwing a direct challenge, Joshi said, “If Anmol Gagan Mann is truly honest and not receiving any ‘monthly cut,’ she should immediately shut down illegal mining in Majri block, where not even a single legal mining site exists today.”

He demanded strict action against the mining mafia and accountability from the administration.
