
Former civic commissioner joins NCP
J D Jadhav, former municipal commissioner and state rural development secretary joined the Nationalist Congress Party today. He is likely to be the candidate from Mumbai North-East for the Lok Sabha election that will witness a tough contest between Gurudas Kamat Cong and Kirit Somaiya BJP. Jadhav8217;s candidature is meant to woo the large Dalit and backward castes votebank in the polarised constituency.
BJP worker held for kidnapping
A BJP worker, his bodyguard and six others have been arrested for kidnapping a businessman8217;s son at Malad E late last night. Police said businessman Mohammedali Qureshi8217;s son Munafali was kidnapped from Hussain Chawl in Quarter8217;s Colony at around 9.30 pm. The attack was carried out allegedly at the behest of BJP worker Sohan Jain , police added. The victim8217;s father had informed police who alerted the mobile patrol van. The Maruti in which Munafali was taken was intercepted between Andheri and Jogeshwari and the victimwas rescued. Investigations have revealed Qureshi had borrowed Rs 50,000 from Jain.
Nominations for 17 seats filed
Former Maharashtra chief minister Manohar Joshi filed his nomination from the Mumbai North-Central parliamentary constituency today. For the Assembly elections, Yusufkhan Futtemohammed Khan Ind filed his papers from Malabar Hill, Maksud Mahmed Vabhir CPM from Mazgaon, Sunita Shinde NCP from Mazgaon, and Chandrakanta Goyal BJP and Geeta Dasharathan AIADMK have filed their nominations from Matunga. So far, seven candidates have filed their nominations for 17 Assembly segments in Mumbai city.
