2 gangsters killed in encounter

Two alleged members of the Manchekar gang were killed in an encounter with police at Dombivli in Thane district early on Sunday. Police said Uday Shanker Manjrekar and Rajesh alias Bhatta Natkarni opened fire when challenged by a police party near the Postal Colony on the Nandivli road around 5.30 am. The two gangsters and three policemen, including a sub-inspector, were injured in the ensuing exchange of fire. Manjrekar and Natkarni were taken to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead.

No power supply in Kalyan, Shahad

There has been no power supply in Kalyan and Shahad for the past two days. Repeated attempts from consumers to get MSEB to restore power supply have failed. The authorities are yet to furnish reasons. Citizens groups in the townships have decided to launch an agitation against MSEB if power supply isn8217;t resumed.

Stone hurled at local, one hurt

A 28-year-old manager with the Infrastructure Leasing and Finance ILFS was hitby a stone thrown at a local near Vikhroli station on Saturday evening. Krishnakumar Gangadharan was standing near the footboard of the 7.44 pm Ambarnath fast when he was hit by a stone thrown as the train passed Vikhroli station at 8.30 pm. He has got 10 stitches for a deep gash above his upper lip.
