LLM students want stay on examinations

Seven students appearing for the LLM exams have approached the Bombay High Court seeking a stay on the on-going exams following gross errors in the papers set by the University of Mumbai.

According to the students, the first paper of group six held on May 22 had 50 per cent questions from the second paper, the second paper had 70 per cent syllabi of the first paper. Irritated at the mix-up, the students appearing for the exams in Lala Lajpatrai College boycotted the exams and have filed a writ before the vacation bench of HC seeking a stay on the exams. The third paper is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm.

The students appearing for paper I in group six, dealing with general principles of Hindu jurisprudence8217; were shocked to see around 50 per cent questions from the second paper on laws of property8217; which included arbitration proceedings on issues of partition, succession and joint family problems, for which nobody had come prepared since the paperwas scheduled for May 24. On Monday, when students came prepared for the second paper, they found around 70 per cent of the questions pertained to the first paper of Hindu jurisprudence.8217; The matter will come up for urgent hearing on Wednesday.

Vakola phones dead for a week

Nearly 1,200 telephones in Vakola area have been dead for a week due to a cable fault, which the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited MTNL has been unable to rectify so far.

Residents informed that the phones mostly affected are from the 611, 612 and 610 exchanges. Patuck Technical High School and Junior College principal K G K Kurup complained that when the MTNL office was contacted, residents were 8220;consoled8221; saying they were not the only sufferers as about 1,200 phones were dead due to the cable fault. The MTNL8217;s deputy general manager Vile Parle division P Malhotra admitted that 1,200 lines have been down for a week. 8220;The problem was compounded because of road-digging for civic works and the rains. The lines will beset right by Wednesday,8221; he assured.
