5-yr-old dies in mishap

A five-year-old girl was killed and 10 others injured when a Fiat car ran into members of a religious procession at Juhu Tara road on Sunday afternoon. The car, driven by Amit Rege 38, rammed into participants in a Dashma Devi procession. The victim, Hansa Puralim, was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where she was declared dead before admission. The injured have been admitted to Bhabha Hospital, said the police adding that Rege has been arrested.

Gangsters8217; bodies identified

The police have identified the bodies of two gangsters found at Juhu on Saturday evening as members of a Pune-based gang. The police stumbled upon the bodies behind Godrej Bungalow at around 8.45 pm.

The gangsters have been identified as Chandu Takle and Raju Kanadi, both from Talegaon Dabhade, Pune district. The duo was involved in the murder of one Sambhaji Awale at Pune in May, 1996. The Dehu road police had arrested them and they were later lodged in Aurangabad jail.

After being releasedon bail a few days ago, the duo had made a trip to Mumbai. The police suspect that they were killed by rival gangs.

24-hours AIDS hotline

A round-the-clock AIDS hotline for youth is proposed to be set up soon under a project sponsored by the Harvard University. The hotline, to be manned by volunteers from colleges in the metropolis, would be maintained by the Florida-based Visions Worldwide Incorporated8217;, a delegation of non-resident Indian students from the United States announced. Seven NRI students, studying medicine, neuro-science,microbiology, economics and religion at various American universities are on a month-long visit as Summer 1998 delegates8217; of Visions Worldwide Inc8217;.
