
Y P Singh to be posted with SRPF at Goregaon
The state government has decided to post Assistant Inspector General of Police Y P Singh as commandant, State Reserve Police Force, Goregoan, according to reliable sources. The decision comes a day before a crucial hearing on his plea against his transfer in the Supreme Court on Friday.Singh, an IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, had challenged his transfer from the post of AIGP, administration, Mumbai, to the SRPF, Nagpur in May 1997.
He had moved the Supreme Court after the Bombay High Court rejected his petition. An order on his appeal to the SC is expected on Friday. Singh had alleged malafide intention behind his transfer from Mumbai headquarters to Nagpur, particularly against Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde.
Lorry operators threaten stir
Lorry and tank operators in Maharashtra have threatened to keep their vehicles off the roads if the government does not relax its stand on the stipulated capacity of load the trucks should carry. Maharashtra Lorry and Tank Owners Association general secretary K C Khandelwal on Thursday said lorry operators in the state would halt operations if government does not relent on their demand. Khandelwal in statement here said tankers engaged in the transportation of products like petrol, diesel and kerosene cannot be loaded at par with required registered laden weight RLW as these products vary in density and would therefore have different weights for various products.
