
NEW DELHI, JAN 1: Telephone subscribers all over the country can now identify a caller for a monthly charge of Rs 50 and with the help of an add-on equipment. The facility being introduced in the E-10B exchanges of the Department of Telecommunications from the New Year day on an experimental basis will enable subscribers to identify the number of the calling party.
This will help users to decide whether to attend the call or not.Also being introduced by the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited MTNL, the facility will make a display of the calling party8217;s number and the STD code, in case of outstation calls, at the add-on equipment.
A nominal fee of Rs 50 per month would be charged for availing the facility, which will be included in the bi-monthly bill of the subscribers, an official release said. However, the facility may not be available in places where the telephone network is working with non-E10B exchanges.
