Throwing all norms to the winds, a Samajwadi Party legislator and former Uttar Pradesh minister has donated Rs 55 lakh from his Vidhyak Nidhi fund to an unaided government-recognised intermediate college here which has, as members of its governing body, the legislator himself, his son and other family members.
The norms clearly state that no legislator can contribute funds from his Vidhyak Nidhi to any institute or organisation with links to the donor.
Interestingly, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has himself contributed Rs 10 lakh, while an MLC and the local MP (both from the SP) have together donated Rs 15 lakh to the college with a strength of 850 students. Besides, the local administration has not conducted a spot inspection to check if the funds released under the SP MLA, Shyamlal Rawat’s Vidhyak Nidhi have been properly utilised. ‘‘No spot inspection has been conducted, but the college is doing a great service to students,’’ said D.C. Tripathi, the project director. When contacted, Rawat said, ‘‘I haven’t used the funds for my personal needs but donated it to ensure the college gets the best.’’
