
SOLAN, Feb 9: A case of alleged rape of a Class VI student of Government Middle School, Jainagar, under Arki sub-division here, by the headmaster of her school, has come to light.
The police registered a case against the headmaster Sunder Singh, charging him with rape and illegal confinement, after a complaint was filed by the victim, at Arki police station, yesterday.
An ex-serviceman, Sunder Singh is a resident of Chakmoh village under Badsar police station in Hamirpur district.
According to the FIR, the 14-year-old girl was allegedly subjected to forcible confinement in a school room and was then raped during school hours, on January 28.
The report states that the incident occurred after the other students went out into the verandah to warm themselves before a wood stove because of the heavy rains. The headmaster then allegedly detained the girl on the pretext of checking her book, and after bolting the room committed the crime. Subsequently, he allegedly threatened to kill her and her family if she disclosed the incident.
On February 5, the girl confided in her cousin Nirmala, a Class VIII student of the same school, who, on the following day, narrated the incident to the girl8217;s mother. The girl8217;s mother then told the same to her husband.
The news of the alleged rape spread in Jainagar and the adjoining villages, and subsequently on February 8, a large number of people, mostly women, assembled near the school and severely thrashed the headmaster.
According to ASP Himanshu Mishra, the headmaster was seriously injured and rendered unconscious. After receiving an anonymous call, the Arki SHO rushed to the spot and took him to the police station for enquiries.
He was taken to the Arki Hospital from where he was shifted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla.
The police have registered a case under Sections 376 and 342 of the IPC against the headmaster. A separate case against one Sagar Dass of Jainagar and others has also been registered under Sections 353, 332, 147, 341, and 323, on the basis of the headmaster8217;s statement.
The girl8217;s medical report is awaited.
