NEW DELHI, June 12: An inspector and a lower division clerk of the MCD were arrested by officials of the anti-corruption branch yesterday while they were accepting Rs 1,500 as bribe from a factory owner for renewing a license.
Inspector Azad Krishan Jain and lower division clerk Prem Chand had reportedly demanded Rs 2,500 for considering the renewal of factory license of Suraj Prakash Dua, owner of a factory in Geeta Colony. A deal was fixed for Rs 1,500. Dua filed a complaint with the anti-corruption branch. A trap was laid and the two were arrested just when Jain and Premchand were accepting the amount at their office in the old Hindu college building at Kashmere gate. According to anti-corruption branch officials, Dua had visited the inspector on June 10 for the renewal of the license of his toy factory but had been informed that he would have to pay some amount to ensure that his application is considered by the authorities.
