Maya sets timetable for bureaucrats

To scan the progress made in the area of relief and developmental work, Chief Minister Mayawati has decided to set a strict timetable for her bureaucrats.

A special emphasis will be given to flood-affected areas and the Bundelkhand region.

For monitoring, the state has been divided into two sections 8211; highly sensitive districts and less sensitive districts. The bureaucrats will camp in their respective districts from December 8 to 15. They will also have to submit their report to the chief minister within three days after they return from the tour.

The senior bureaucrats of the principal secretary level have been given the job of monitoring 28 highly sensitive districts, and the special secretary level bureaucrats for the 43 less sensitive districts.

Incidentally, even the bureaucrats at the Chief Minister8217;s office have not been spared from following this timetable.

Principal Secretaries at the Chief Minister8217;s Office J N Chamber and Net Ram have been allotted Gorakhpur and Banda districts, which comes under the highly sensitive areas.

Other Principal Secretaries include Shailesh Krishna and Ravindra Singh, who will be camping in Varanasi and Gonda respectively. These are also highly sensitive districts.

A senior officer in the state government said that they had received similar orders in the past as well but 8220;this time the orders are more specific and stringent8221;.

For each district, the bureaucrat has to note down the number of projects sanctioned along with their costs.

The circular issued by the Programme Implementation Department on December 5 also specifies an assessment chart on a scale of five.

The bureaucrats will have to specify if any action

has been taken against the authority responsible for the poor quality of work.

In case no action has been initiated, the officer monitoring the work will also recommend a suitable action.

The bureaucrats will be assisted by the senior technical staff of the Public Works and Irrigation and Planning Departments.

After the preliminary monitoring, a follow up programme will be conducted in which the officials will once again visit the same districts between January 8 and 15.
