There’s nothing that matches the warmth of hand-knitted woollies

Till a while back, all of us sported woollens our doting grandmothers knit for us. Be it multi-coloured cardigans with cutesy buttons or snug and stylish caps and mufflers. Indeed, keeping warm in winter never was an issue. And then the grandmothers went old and the working mums never got down to clicking the needles. “Knitting is an art that requires both time and patience,” feels Mohali-based Swaran Lata who has over the years specialized in hand-knitted woollens, available at pocket-friendly prices. “I started off by doing baby sets before progressing to cardigans and mufflers for children and now adults too,” informs the lady who is set to roll out her exhibition of woollen garments at her home (House No 39, Phase IV) in Mohali starting this Saturday on till Monday. On offer are a range of sweaters in vibrant colours predominantly for newborns with a range extending to teenagers as well. “There’s nothing that quite matches up to the warmth of a hand-knitted garment and specially for children,” feels Swaran Lata as she shows her line-up which boasts of pretty patterns and styles too. Interestingly, this entrepreneur has also styled long woollen kurtas, quite trendy ones, for the ladies. “I have combined hand knits with machine knits to come up with kurtas,” mentioned Lata as we eyed a pretty one in black offset with red crotchet work. Speaking of the latter, she also spins crotchet shawls and takes orders for customized woollens. If you are looking for hand knit woollen vests for children, you’ll find them here. Also showcasing her collection of linen, embroidered and woollen suits is Lata’s friend Kamlesh Malik during the exhibition.
