
KHARAR, Feb 17: Exercising powers under Section 5 1 of the Punjab Municipal Act, 1911, the state Department of Local Government has approved the proposal to expand the present limits of Kharar Municipal Council. Subsequently, the panchayats of Chhajjumajra, Desumajra, Santemajra, Khunimajra and Fatehullapur villages, whose areas have been included in the limits, have been dissolved with immediate effect.
According to a copy of the notification issued to this effect by Principal Secretary, Department of Local Government, Punjab, N. K. Arora, which was received here today, the expansion has been undertaken under the Schedule of Boundary8217;.
According to the notification, the objections which had been invited through a preliminary notification issued on October 16, were rejected in public interest after giving them the necessary hearing.
The residents of the areas which had been included in the Kharar municipal limits and the village panchayats of Santemajra and Khunimajra had lauded the expansion, the notification adds.
When contacted, Principal Secretary N. K. Arora said the village panchayats of the areas within the expanded limits would be automatically dissolved from the date of the issuance of the notification.
He said the newly included areas would be represented during the next general civic elections, adding that there was no provision within the Punjab Municipal Act to do so immediately by holding civic by-elections.
Meanwhile, the Kharar Municipal Council has adopted the notifications issued to this effect by the Punjab government and shifted its octroi check-posts from the present limits to the extended limits today morning.
