Kharar cries for a permanent SDM

KHARAR, MARCH 7: The post of Sub-Divisional Magistrate SDM here is lying vacant for the last more than two months as the state government has failed to appoint any permanent officer on this post since January 1. S.A.S. Nagar SDM O.P. Popli has been given the additional charge of Kharar SDM.

This has not only resulted in a lot of inconvenience to the general public, but rendered the SDM8217;s court non-functional. Not only that, hundreds of cases being tried in the court of SDM are lying pending and the applications for driving licences and registration certificates for vehicles piling up at the SDM office, it is reliably learnt.

While the staff at the SDM office attribute the delay to the absence of permanent SDM, the lawyers and general public are demanding speedy clearance of pending court cases and issuance as well as renewal of driving licences and RCs of vehicles.

Inquiries at the SDM8217;s office revealed that not even a single case being tried in the court of SDM has been decided during the past two months. The same is the case with the driving licences and registration of vehicles. Sources at the SDM8217;s office also admitted that the court proceedings had virtually come to a standstill.
