KOCHI, January 28: Two new meet record performances, both by boys, marked the second day’s programme of the 13th Junior National athletic meet at the Maharaja’s College ground here today.
The first record to go was in the u-16 boys’ discus throw. Karamvir Singh, a Ludhiana-school boy, erased the two-year-old meet record set by Jagajit Singh (Delhi, 54.36). Karavir, hailing from Hissar district in Haryana, hurled the disc to 55.70m, which is incidentally a new national record too in this category.
Kerala’s Juby Thomas, a trainee of Olympian Suresh Babu, brought down the two-year-old high jump meet record, clearing the bar at 1.96m. The earlier meet record stood in the name of Dara Singh of Delhi.
