NEW DELHI, SEPT 18: Jeev Milkha Singh fired a superb four-under 67 in the second round to leapfrog 45 places to joint 17th at the halfway stage in the Lancome Trophy Golf Tournament in Paris. The top Indian pro, who was languishing at the 62nd spot overnight with a one-over card, showed tremendous improvement under bright sunshine in the French capital to share the 17th position with nine others at three-under 139 yesterday.

He struck superb form in the second round to be seven shots adrift of the leader, defending champion Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain. Jimenez shot into a three-shot second-round lead over England8217;s Gary Evans at 10-under 132.

Simi slumps one place

NEW DELHI: India8217;s Simi Mehra returned a one-over-par 73 card and just managed to make the cut in the Safeco Classic Golf tournament at Kent, near Washington USA, according to information reaching here today. Simi 7173, the lone Indian on the Ladies Professional Golfers Association LPGA tour, went into the second round atjoint 26th with a one-under par round, but failed to improve on her performance at the 5,640-metre Meridian Valley Country Club Course yesterday.

Randhawa claims thriller

BANGALORE: Meerut-based Jyoti Randhawa, at two-over 290, squeezed through a nerve-wracking 18 holes, to win the winner8217;s cheque of Rs 97,200 at the Rs six lakh Wills Southern Open, being played at the par-72, 6,945-yard Karnataka Golf Association Golf Course here today.

At joint second-spot were Basad Ali, Uttam Mundy and Amritinder Singh with three-over 291.

CHENNAI: Amish Jaitha of Pune was confidence personified as he shot a five under par 67 today to aggregate 287 and emerge arun-away winner of the glittering AV Thomas Gold Cup, the second of the series of categorised tournaments for amateur golfers run by Indian Golf Union in the country.
