India8217;s last resort, the women8217;s 1600m relay squad, failed to even start their challenge properly, disqualified pretty early as they were.
Apparently the squad wilted under pressure on the penultimate day of the World Athletics Championships in Osaka. According to information reaching here, Mandeep Kaur ran the first leg, and though she managed to pass the baton smoothly after her leg, next runner Manjeet Kaur cut the lane too early. This put paid to Indian hopes. As per the results the Indian team was later disqualified. As per rules the second runner can change the lane after the first curve.
Violation of rules apart, the overall performance was also poor. Going by the results the team finished last in their heats II clocking 3:39.55s which was slower than the gold winning time of 3:33.39 clocked in the Asian athletics championships in Amman. The team of Mandeep Kaur, Manjeet Kaur, Chitra K Soman and Iyleen Samantha finished last.
