Chauhan report
NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council ICC will certify on controversial off-spinner Rajesh Chauhan8217;s action on receiving the report from the ICC training team led by Fred Titmus, under whom the bowler had a session at the Lord8217;s recently.
ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya said the ICC team, with whom Chauhan had a session on his trip to England withformer India off-spinner EAS Prasanna, will submit its report regarding to the ICC quot;soonquot;.
Asked whether Chauhan would be in the team for the coming Australian tour, Dalmiya replied, quot;I don8217;t see any reason why he should not come back into the team.quot;
Swimmer dead
CALCUTTA: Dr Bimal Chandra, a well-known swimmer of yester year, died here last night. He was 71.
Chandra won bronze medals in the 400 metre and 1,500 metre free-style events of the inaugural Asian Games in 1951. He also represented India in the 1948 Olympics where he entered the finals. A physician by professionn, Chandra also crossed the English Channel in 1959.
Drug offences
NEW DELHI: Rath marathon winner Keshav Singh and under-22 women long jumper EL Julie have been suspended from taking part in any athletic competition till further notice.
Amateur Athletic Federation of India AAFI secretary Lalit Bhanot said here yesterday that both the athletes have tested positive for using banned drugs.
KeshavSingh, who was selected to represent the country in the Asian Marathon in Thailand, has been dropped from the squad.
Swimming Natls
AHMEDABAD: The Swimming Federation of India will hold the Sub-junior and Junior National Aquatic Championships at Ludhiana in September and the Senior National Aquatic Championship in Bangalore in October this year. The SFI will also hold international swimming competition in Delhi in November this year to which Asian countries will be invited to participate.
