
Kanetkar falls in final match
BANGALORE: Nikhil Kanetkar lost to top seed Colin Haughton of England 6-15, 0-15 in the final of the OCBC-Yonex US Open badminton Grand Prix tournament.Kanetkar, along with Aparna Popat, will now join the Indian team for the Asian Confederation Championships in Kuala Lumpur from September 15-19.

MARGAO: A brace by Denis Cabral helped Salgaocar Sports Club down Dempo Sports Club 2-1 to open their encounter on a winning note in the second edition of the professional league at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.pDempo shot into lead in 35th minute when a cross by Edwin Fernandes from the left was smartly headed by Miguel Rodrigues. Salgaocar restored parity in the 55th minute. Cabral ensured victory when he found the net from inside the box in the 78th minute after the 8216;keeper had deflected the ball off a shot from Coven Lawrence.

CHANDIGARH: An Indian team will take part in the Asian Schools tennis tournament to be held in JakartaIndonesia from September 19-27. The boys and girls were selected during the two-day trials held at National Institute of Sports, Patiala on September 11 and 12.

NEW DELHI: Jeev Milkha Singh shot a one-under 71 on the third day of the euro one million Victor Chandler British Master and climbed one place to tie 28th after three rounds at the 6,973-yard,par-72 Woburn Golf and Country Club at Woburn, England.
According to information reaching here, Jeev made three birdies as against two bogies for his 71. That gave him an aggregate of five-under 211 for 54 holes.
