
Gram panchayat polls in Nagar
Ahmednagar: The results of Mukundnagar-Dargahdayra gram panchayat elections in Ahmednagar held on Saturday have been declared. Three candidates 8212; Samad Khan Wahab Khan from ward no 6, Shahin Powar from ward no 4 and Shashikanth Gade from ward no 1- have been elected unopposed. The fight was restricted to Gram Vikas panel which won eight seats and Ekta Vikas panel which bagged seven seats. Two independents have also been elected. In all, forty-three candidates were in the fray for seventeen seats.
Navratra begins in Kolhapur
Kolhapur: Shardiya Navratrotsav, a festival lasting till Kojagiri poornima began with the ghatasthapna at the Mahalaxmi temple here today. Various cultural and religious programmes were organised by Mahalaxmi Bhakta Mandal to mark the occasion. The temple was decorated with saffron buntings. The festival also began at Tulja Bhavani temple in Tuljapur.
Borgaon incident draws flak
Sangli: The Borgaon incident was unfortunate and a blot on humanity, said guardian minister Anna Dange while speaking to reporters, here today. This incident should not be politicised, he said.8220;But the incident is being politicised by some people,8221; said Dange, in a dig at Dalit Maha Sang leader Machindra Sakte8217;s demand that Dange own moral responsibility for the incident and resign.
Sunday lectures
Ahmednagar: Ahmednagar College lecturers are holding lectures on Sunday to make up for the loss of days due to the recent strike. Many classes were packed with enthusiastic students. The University of Pune circular on conducting lectures on Sundays and the trimming of Diwali vacation was circulated on Saturday by the registrar, Franklin Coutinho.
Jarhad elected
Ahmednagar: Bhaskar Jarhad from Ahmednagar has been elected president of Ahmednagar District Junior College Teachers8217; Association. A.G. Wangde from Akole and B.D. Lande from Parner are the new secretary and treasurer, respectively.
