Gary Stead to join Kiwis

WELLINGTON: Batsman Gary Stead will join the New Zealand touring side in India after Craig McMillan fractured a finger while fielding, New Zealand cricket said Monday.

McMillan fractured the first joint of his right-hand index finger during the second Test against India at Kanpur. 8220;The injury occurred late on the first day of play and x-rays confirmed a break the following day,8221; NZ Cricket said. The team8217;s physiotherapist Mark Harrison said a decision on McMillan8217;s return to New Zealand would not be taken until tomorrow.

Jayaprakash beat PK Shameer of Kerala 25-0, 4-25, 25-0. His black slam came in the third and deciding game of the fourth board. Former international Sanjay Nagaonkar and R Arokyaraj won their first round men8217;s singles matches easily.

State basketball

NAGPUR: The Maharashtra State Basketball Championship has attracted 22 teams in the men8217;s and 14 in the women8217;s sections. The five-day event would be played at Nutan Bharat Yuwaksangh and Dharampeth Krida Mandal courts.
