Implement SC quota ruling on quota

PATIALA, NOV 15: PUNJAB State General Category Welfare Federation PSGCWF today organised a dharna in front of the office of the Patiala Deputy Commissioner to press the government to implement in toto the Supreme Court8217;s decision regarding reservation in promotions in the government service for general category staff.

Addressing the rallists, Amrik Singh, president of the federation, appealed to the government to order implementation of the SC decision regarding reservation on the economic basis and stopping caste-based reservation, admissions on merit in the professional colleges and educational institutions, and providing facilities on economic basis instead of caste criterion.

He also appealed for large-scale participation in the state-level rally to be organised at Chandigarh on November 26, and said that about 50 buses would be organised from Patiala.

Others who spoke were ShyamLal Sharma, state president, Prabhjeet Singh, senior vice-president, Sohan Lal Gupta, S.C. Vashisht, Devi Dass, president Brahaman Sabha, Surinder Kumar Kansal and Baljinder Singh Tiwana.

Later, a delegation presented a memorandum containing the main demands.

The federation has again threatened to launch an agitation if the government failed to implement the court8217;s direction on reservation.
