CHANDIGARH, April 30: Despite several steps being taken by the Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation here to preserve the beauty of city, illegal constructions continue unabated in Sector 7, which houses senior government officials.

The volume of the problem can be gauged, in fact, from Sector 7, where open space in front and rear parts of houses is grabbed by lessees senior government officials for their personal use. However, these spaces are meant for common usage. The incidence of land-grabbing has increased in the last couple of weeks and enforcement staff seems to have turned a blind eye to them.

Earlier, Newsline had recently highlighted the glaring picture of bounteous encroachment, but it had little impact and unauthorised constructions continue unabated.

Though the area inspector has been authorised to report, but constructions continue the encroachments to the Estate Office on a weekly basis, but the situation still remains the same.
