Man, woman found dead in Barnala house rented from an NRI

A young man and woman from Ludhiana were found dead inside a house owned by a non-resident Indian in a village under Mehal Kalan Assembly constituency of Barnala district on Friday, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Parvinder Singh (30), a resident of Kaonke village in Ludhiana district, and Baljit Kaur (25) from Aligarh village, also in Ludhiana.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the man and woman were not married and had arrived in Tallewal village on December 24.

They had reportedly taken the house, belonging to an NRI on rent. Hardeep Singh, a friend of Parwinder was the caretaker of the house, police said.

Parvinder Singh had come to the village in search of a shop for starting a fast-food business.

Early on Friday, when the caretaker went to serve tea to the couple, he discovered the bodies and subsequently informed the police.

Police said Parvinder Singh’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan using a dupatta, while Baljit Kaur’s body was lying on the bed in the same room.

Nirmaljit Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Tallewal, told mediapersons, “Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide, considering the position in which the bodies were found. However, we are investigating the matter from all angles”.

The SHO added that police received information about the incident in the morning and immediately reached the spot. A forensic team was called to collect samples from the room. Police recovered Aadhaar cards of both individuals from the house, which helped in establishing their identities and addresses.

According to the police officer, Parwinder Singh’s family members have informed the police that the two were living together. However, the family of the woman was yet to reach the village.

“After recording the statements of both families, we will be able to proceed further in the investigation,” he added.

Police said that the postmortem examination of the bodies will be conducted on Saturday, following which the exact cause of death will

be ascertained. Further investigation is underway.

Mohammad Sarfraz Alam, SSP Barnala said,” A forensic team was called to inspect the spot, and as per the initial police investigation proceedings under Section 194 BNSS( died by suicide ) are being carried out. Further details will be ascertained after receipt of the post-mortem reports of the deceased.”
