COMMACK, NEW YORK, AUG 23: Australian Patrick Rafter ousted top seed Michael Chang and hard-serving newcomer Julian Alonso of Spain bounced second seed Goran Ivanisevic of Croatia from the Hamlet Cup in the quarter-finals yesterday.

The eighth-seeded, 14th-ranked Rafter beat world number two Chang 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the warmup for the U.S Open starting next week. Alonso, a qualifier, beat fourth-ranked Ivanisevic 7-6 7-4. 3-6, 6-3 and made a little history as well.

Chang has never won the Hamlet Cup, despite playing it for five of the past six years, missing 1995. In the semi-finals, Rafter will face Sweden8217;s Thomas Enqvist while Alonso meets countryman Carlos Moya.

Corretja upset

BROOKLINE: Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands upset top-seeded Alex Corretja of Spain 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals of the MFS Pro Championships on Friday. Schalken will face fifth-seeded Albert Costa of Spain on Saturday. Costa beat Johan Van Herck of Belgium 6-7 7-3, 6-2, 6-1.

Davenport advances

PARK STONE MOUNTAIN: The atmosphere is different. The result is the same for Lindsay Davenport. Davenport, a gold medalist during the 1996 Olympic tournament at Stone Mountain Park, remained unbeaten on the courts, east of Atlanta with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Amanda Coetzer in the semifinals of the U.S women8217;s hardcourt championships on Friday.

In the other semifinal,Testud advanced to the finals witha 7-5, 6-3 victory over Iva Majoli.
