NAWANSHAHR, Aug 11: As many as three of the total four seats of the local Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, elections to which were held on Sunday, have been won by the candidates belonging to Banga constituency.

While in Nawanshahr constituency, 7,566 persons out of the total 11,874 cast their votes, the Banga constituency registered 67 per cent voting during these elections.

Among the winners, Jarnail Singh, who had the backing of Jatinder Singh Kariha, district president of the SAD, polled the maximum 1,608 votes while Darshan Singh Mander, who had the support of Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Welfare Minister, Punjab, secured 1,053 votes.

Avtar Singh, who was backed by Sukhdev Singh Bhour, and Jagjit Singh, who had the backing of the president of the Banga circle of SAD, Harjagidsh Singh Mann, bagged 966 and 936 votes, respectively.However, the other two Bhour-supported candidates, Harbhajan Singh Barnala and Surinder Singh Laddian could not win.

Harjinder Singh of Durgapur, an Independent, managed to secure 573 votes in these elections.
