GSRTC drivers fail vision test

VADODARA, May 18: As many as 24 drivers of the Vadodara depot of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation GSRTC have been found to have weak vision at a medical check-up camp organised in collaboration with the city traffic police recently.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police M K Tandon, this was the first-ever medical examination of bus drivers by the traffic police to assess the drivers eyesight, which is very essential for safe driving. He said such camps would be organised again in due course of time.

However, divisional controller of the Vadodara unit of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation P K Patel said that the drivers detected to be suffering from weak eyesight were not disabled for driving. When it was pointed out that their eyesight might deteriorate in time if no corrective measures were taken, he said that all such drivers had been asked to get themselves rechecked and procure spectacles accordingly.
