Godhra probe panel gets 3 months more

The tenure of the Justice U C Banerjee panel, set up to probe the 2002 fire inside the Sabarmati Express in Godhra that led to riots in Gujarat, was today extended by three more months—till December 4.

The panel was set up last September. Slated to give its report within three months, the panel came out with an interim report early this year. The interim report became controversial when Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav chose to make it public just before the Bihar elections in February.
