OCA to shift seven venues in Bangkok Asian Games

HONG KONG: The Olympic Council of Asia OCA will shift the venue for seven sports for next year8217;s Asian Games in Bangkok if construction work is not finished. An OCA source said the governing body had identified existing venues in southern bangkok that could be used at short notice for the event.

Stadiums and press facilties in the Bangkok land complex in the northern part of the city must be finished five months before the Games start in December 1998.

Oman beat Macau 2-0 in qualifier

TOKYO: Oman kept their slim World Cup hopes alive in a 2-0 win over Macau 2-0 in the Asian Zone Group Four qualifying round. Oman collected 12 points from four wins against one defeat in the four-team competition, with their goal differential standing at 13, far fewer than front-runners Japan at 27.

The Japanese, who had four consecutive wins for 12 points, were to play Nepal later in the day at the National Stadium.

Brazil pump ten goals against Belgium

KUALA LUMPUR: Brazil showed why they are the most feared team in the World Youth Football Championships by romping home to a 10-0 victory over Belgium on Wednesday.

Alex de Souza led the way with three goals, Alvaro Aquino and Roni Santos pumped in two each while Eder Silveira, Adailton and Junior Junior also helped themselves to goals.

ZURICH: Ronaldo will make football legal history if FIFA ratify the Brazilian star8217;s move from Spanish side Barcelona to Inter Milan of Italy. Barcelona claim they still own Ronaldo even though Ronaldo8217;s lawyer said last Friday they had paid Barcelona the 27.6 theoretically needed to make him a free agent.

But FIFA, football8217;s governing body, said neither the Spanish Football Federation nor Barcelona had asked them to arbitrate.

Piper banned for testing positive

LONDON: Warwickshire wicket-keeper Keith Piper was fined 830 and banned for one match after failing a drugs Test, the English county side said. Piper, a former England A player, tested positive for cannabis after the entire team was tested on June 23.

The tests were carried out after the county8217;s former all-rounder Paul Smith was banned from professional cricket for 22 months by the ECB earlier this month for using cocaine.

Tyson favoured, Holyfield confident

LAS VEGAS: Evander Holyfield surprised a lot of people, including Mike Tyson, when he won the WBA heavyweight title on November 9. He would surprise himself if loses the rematch on Saturday night.

One reason for Holyfield8217;s confidence apparently is his respect for Tyson. 8220;He just comes to win each and every time,8221; Holyfield said. Tyson is a slight favorite to win the rematch at the MGM Grand Garden. He was a 7-1 betting choice at fight time in November.

JERUSALEM: Israeli beekeepers hope to take the sting out of heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield8217;s fight with Mike Tyson on Saturday. The apiary at Kibbutz Yad Mordechai, a collective farm in southern Israel, said it had sent Holyfield a natural antibiotic cream which is produced by bees for the treatment of any cuts he might suffer in the Las Vegas bout.
