Three Indians make the cut
MANILA:
Arjun Atwal, Amandeep Johl and Jyoti Randhawa made the cut in the $ 200,000 Filipino Open Golf Tournament on Friday. Atwal sunk a one-under 71 to improve upon his opening round by two strokes for a par 144 over the two rounds to be joint 14th along with Johl, who went one over.
Randhawa, who fared poorly with a first-round card of 77, came up with a much better fare as he returned 73 to be joint 63rd with 11 others and just managed to make the grade with an aggregate of 150 as the cut was applied at that score.

Ram meets Ketola in Challenger final
CALCUTTA:
Unseeded Andy Ram (Israel) beat fourth-seeded Italian Mose Navarra to set up a title clash with third-seeded Tuomas Ketola (Finland) in the ATP Challenger tennis meet.
Ram won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 while Ketola brushed aside Aisam Qureshi (Pakistan) 6-2, 6-4.
In the doubles semi-final, Gregory Carraz-Guillaume Marx prevailed over Cedric Kaufmann-Syed Fazaluddin 6-4, 6-1. They meet Andy Ram-Nir Welgreen on Saturday.

Railways men, Karnataka women score
CHENNAI:
Indian Railways men and Karnataka women registered victories in the fourth Indian Oil Servo-National Super League volleyball championship for the Nutrine Trophy.
Railways beat Andhra Pradesh 25-22 25-13 25-8, Karnataka defeated Tamil Nadu 24-26 25-18 25-21 26-24.

Cricketer killed in brawl
DUBAI:
A cricketer lost his temper in a friendly game and hit an opponent with a bat, killing him at Ras-al-Khaimah in UAE.
The competition became too hot for the two young Indians, reported to be friends. The opponents Labeed Mohammed and Saif Qaffim got involved in an argument over whether a run had been scored as other players tried to calm them down. Eyewitnesses said suddenly Qaffim picked up a bat and struck Labeed on the head, knocking him unconscious. The injured man was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead after two hours.

Warne hides behind a smoke screen
WELLINGTON:
Police had to intervene when Shane Warne snatched a bag from a young fan and refused to give it back. The boy photographed Warne, who did not want to return the bag unless the film in the camera was handed over to him.
“Mr Warne was upset. I think, at the fact he had been photographed while smoking (a cigarette),” inspector Greg Gilpin of Wellington police said. Warne was early last year paid $ 118,000 by a pharmaceutical company to quit his 40-a-day habit and promote its anti-smoking gum and patches.
