Yuzvendra Chahal says he’s moved on from divorce with Dhanashree Verma, reveals he skipped major tournaments because of depression: ‘She’s happy in her life’

Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal reveals the trolling after his divorce with actor Dhanashree Verma was so intense that it affected him mentally to the extent that he had to skip a few major cricket tournaments last year.

After taking subtle digs at his ex-wife and actor Dhanashree Verma, cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal now feels he’s moved on from the divorce, which was finalized in March last year.

“It was a chapter in my life, which is over now. I’ve left that space now. I don’t want to remain stuck there,” said Yuzvendra, adding, “I’m happy in my life, she’s happy in hers. What is one going to get by making someone miserable?”

Yuzvendra Chahal was asked by the court to pay a reported alimony of Rs 4 crore to Dhanashree Verma. Later, he was seen taking subtle digs at that amount, either by commenting on a Delhi High Court order on alimony (an Instagram Story he later deleted) or by referring to “Rs 4 crore” during a fun Instagram banter with fellow cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.

Yuzvendra even wore a “Be your own sugar daddy” T-shirt during the court proceedings, prompting several of his fans to call Dhanashree a “gold-digger.” But in a new interview with Mashable India, Yuzvendra admits the chapter was closed as soon as the two were done with the court proceedings. “It was done and dusted right after stepping out of the court,” he claimed.

After his divorce, Yuzvendra Chahal has been spotted with radio jockey and actor RJ Mahvash. But he maintains that he’s “happily single” and women he’s spotted with are all his friends. Their pictures get leaked when they step out together, he claimed. The cricketer also confessed he tried Raya, the dating app for celebrities, but he didn’t get the concept of dating apps, so decided to delete his account.

Yuzvendra has also been at the end of incessant trolling ever since his acrimonious divorce with Dhanashree Verma. But he believes that’s a part and parcel of being a celebrity today. “When people love you so much, there’s going to be a little bit of hate there as well. But it doesn’t affect me much. I’ve seen it all — trolling and abuses on social media. I’ve left that behind now. If people want to abuse me, it’s okay if that makes them happy,” said the cricketer.

He claimed that trolling isn’t a new phenomenon to him as he’s been previously targeted even for his lean physique and imperfect teeth. “I’ve seen a lot of trolling on my physique and my teeth. The one who wants to troll, they’d troll not me but everyone. He’s not some cousin of mine, so it doesn’t really affect me,” he added.

But Yuzvendra Chahal admits he wasn’t always this thick-skinned. “It did affect me at the start because it was new back then. I couldn’t believe that someone could be so abusive without even meeting me or my family. My Instagram is open, so anyone is welcome to come and hate. They don’t even exist so much in my life that I keep thinking about them,” said the cricketer.

Yuzvendra confessed that last year was particularly rough after his divorce, given he was battling depression. “My mind wasn’t in the right place when I was going through my divorce. Which is why I skipped a few major cricket tournaments last year. I used to share it with my mentor, Aniruddh sir, in Haryana. He helped me a lot to get out of that.”
