Herschelle Gibbs hammered 118 after a dramatic opening burst from England bowler Alex Wharf as South Africa were bowled out for 211 in the sixth one-dayer against England on Friday.
Medium-pacer Wharf, in his first game of the series, took two wickets in two balls without conceding a run, removing skipper Graeme Smith for one and Jacques Kallis for a golden duck to make it 1-2 in the fourth over.
Gibbs survived the hat-trick delivery and rebuilt the innings with some fine drives and cuts, making his second ton of the series and his 15th in one-dayers off 122 balls before falling in the slog overs.
The game was reduced to 48 overs a side after rain interrupted the South African innings for one hour and 45 minutes. The home team were bowled out in 46.3 overs, with Ashwell Gibbs the next highest score after Gibbs with 27. Darren Gough took 2-14 off nine overs. The last six wickets fell for 42.
