VADODARA, May 11: After the State government8217;s assurance to implement recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission8217;s report for the Gujarat Electricity Board GEB employees, the Board on Monday held talks with the Gujarat Engineers Union to give revised salary scales to its engineers.
The engineers, which constitute 10 per cent of the Board8217;s total 47000-odd staff, were not included when a wage revision settlement was reached between the Board and five other unions in Dhuvaran on March 26.
According to highly placed sources, in the meeting which lasted for more than two hours, the Board members and the Union representatives discussed details regarding giving scale-to-scale fixation to the engineers as per the Central government scales.
The Union leaders reiterated that the settlement reached at Dhuvaran was not acceptable to them as they were not called for the meeting. They said they were also against certain recommendations of the Pay Commission report.
Secretary General of the Gujarat Engineers Union J C Mahatre told Express Newsline that the talks were held in a cordial atmosphere. More talks will be held on Tuesday, he added.
When contacted, GEB Member Administration S K Nanda said the talks were in the preparatory stage.
Only last week, Energy Minister Kaushik Patel had said that the Government would announce implementation of the settlement, broadly on the lines of the Fifth Pay Commission8217;s report.
