JALNA, Jan 6: Bharatiya Janata Party’s shadow prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on Tuesday launched an attack on the Gandhi family saying that his party would expedite all investigations into cases of corruption and ensure that those faces which are beeming with smiles through Doordarshan today will go to where they belong to — behind the bars.

Without referring to the new-found hope of Congress, Sonia Gandhi, Vajpayee said today various parties instead of fighting corruption were cleverly making their moves to see that the doors of corruption were always kept open to them.

"The country may have a 5,000-year old civilisation. But today it has become a butt of all jokes the world over," Vajpayee said.

Health and education has taken a back-seat with every party busy in politics of power, the BJP leader said. Court judgements and judicial activism was not the way to solve problems that beset the country, he said.

"It is for the Parliament to find out solutions. And this could be possible only for a government which can stay for the elected term of five years," Vajpayee said.

The BJP leader said he was witnessing a wave of support raising in favour of his party all over the country.

Responding to a demand by State Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, Vajpayee said if elected to power his government would introduce insurance to crops against natural calamities. This insurance will be extended to livestock as well, he added. He said the party would also provide free education to girls up to graduation level. Vajpayee accused the Congress and the United Front of thrusting mid term polls.
