
BATALA, July 19: The administration has constituted three flood relief teams which would provide relief to the flood affected areas in Gurdaspur district.Disclosing this here today S. K. Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner said that these teams would be stationed at Dorangla, Bamial and Kalanaur respectively and would be made up of a tehsildar, senior medical officer, veterinary surgeon, assistant food and supply officer, SDO electricity and SDO drainage.
The team at Dorangla would visit Bhairal pocket of 12 villages situated across the Ravi, to help 3,000 odd residents of this island and would also provide relief to another 21 villages situated on either side of the Ravi. Sandhu said that a police post has been set at the middle school at Bharial and three civilian and one army boat had been pressed into service and would be stationed at Makura Pattan in the district.
The DC further disclosed that other relief teams had been set at Bamial and Kalanaur stations which would tour three villages daily. These teams would carry essential commodities and adequate stock of life-saving medicines for humans and animals. At least 176 villages have been declared to be facing a flood threat in the district, Sandhu added.
