NEW DELHI, Nov 13: Five members of the Amir Raja gang of robbers were arrested on Friday. According to the police, Narain Singh, Parveen Kumar, Pawan Kumar, Arif alias Aslam and Noor Mohammad alias Nazar were picked up when they were reportedly on their way to rob a factory owner, Rajinder Singh Gulani, in Kirti Nagar.
The gang has been involved in 10 cases of robbery. Gang leader Amir Khan alias Raja is absconding. He is said to disband his gang every few months and recruit fresh members. After five or six robberies with one set of people, Khan reorganises his men, never contacting the old ones again. This practice apparently helped the gang to come up with new strategies.
Impersonating officials of various agencies, including the I-T and police departments, the gang gained entry into homes and robbed residents at gun- or knife-point, before fleeing in a car.
