India being second only to China in the number of road fatalities, the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways had, in a joint programme with the Ministry of Health, announced an integrated trauma care management plan. The grand scheme announced earlier this year, however, is itself in need of some ministrations. The men at the helm of the two ministries, T R Baalu and Anbumani Ramadoss, represent the DMK and PMK. But with ‘tension’ brewing between leaders of the two parties back home in Tamil Nadu, the reverberations can be felt even in the planning of the trauma care plan.
