Zee TV clone EL TV has been rechristened, Zee India TV. Launched on January 10, this channel will start with a few hours of current affairs programming and eventually grow into a full-fledged news and current affairs channel. So Zee claims.

Watch out for programmes on the forthcoming polls; in fact all the programmes are on the elections. While Vaade Iraade schedule not fixed discusses party manifestoes, Campaign Trail Monday, 8.30 p.m. travels with the politician. State Countdown daily, 7.30 p.m., Disha Samvad 8212; Chandra Shekhar Ka Desh Ke Saath, Friday, 8.30 p.m., India Debates Saturday, Sunday, 8.30 p.m., Yehi Hai Politics Saturday, Sunday, 7.30 p.m. and Poll Top Ten Thursday, 8.30 p.m. are some of the programmes in the India Vote Series. Phew!

With former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar and journalist MJ Akbar hosting shows, the channel hopes to give the most comprehensive election coverage. Apparently, the Zee TV office was flooded with letters asking for more on the current affairs side, particularly after the recent political crisis. The mail overwhelmed them and they just decided to revamp El.

8220;EL TV had an already established connectivity and viewership. Hence we decided to make the most of the channel8217;s reach,8221; explains PC Lahiri, channel spokesman.

A preview of the programmes leaves one confused by the end of it. The political faces are the same, the questions predictable and the formats similar. The faces will be the same, the politics the same and the channel the same. Might just wear down the viewer.
