NAGPUR, DECEMBER 22: Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has asked Minister of State for Home Kripa Shankar Singh to submit a report on his observations regarding the police machinery during the surprise visit the minister paid to some police stations and the control room on Saturday night.

In an informal discussion with newspersons on Monday, Deshmukh said that he had taken serious note of Singh’s observations during the visit and said action would be taken against errant police officials.

The Minister of State for Home visited the city police control room late Saturday night and found that everyone, including senior officers in the control room, were asleep.

Singh virtually woke every official found sleeping in the control room and none of them even recognised him. He was also not recognised at the Lakadganj and Pachpaoli police stations, which he visited prior to arriving at the control room.

The minister later reprimanded Commissioner of Police Om Prakash Bali for the scene he witnessed at the control room.

Following the incident, the CP has issued orders directing that at least one officer of the rank of Deputy Commissioner make a night round every day, at least till the winter session was on, it is learnt.
