March 23: Nishant Dossa (+35), with breaks of 40 and 33, in his 103-87, 121-49 win over C Mistry (+45), stole the limelight in the fourth-round of the Anthony D’Cruz Open handicap snooker tournament, sponsored by TBZ Jhaveri Bazar and Bharat Petroleum, at the Catholic Gymkhana, today.

Equisport Leela Hotels defeated Piramal A 9-7 in the Amateur Riders’ Club polo tournament at the Mahalakshmi race course, today.

Uday Kalaan was the star performer for the winners with six goals. Angad Kalaan (2) and Faisal Ali (1) were the other goal-getters for Equisport.Manupal Godara (3), DhrupalGodara (2), Ajit Singh (1) and Riazuddin Jamal (1) accounted for the losers.

Welingkar victorious

Welingkar MMS won the Impact 98 cricket tournament at the Matunga Gymkhana today. In the finals they beat Somaiya Institute of Management by 82 runs to lift the trophy for the second succesive year.

Welingkar won the toss and deciede to bat. Openers Amit Gangal and Siddesh gave Welingkar a solid start. Gangal went on to score a fine 81 studded with eight boundaries before he was run out. Vinayak (37) and Akhilesh (40) were the other notable scorers. Bhavesh was the most successful bowler for Somaiya scalping two. In return, Somaiya were bowled out for 121 in 30 overs. Akhilesh and Kapoor were the most successful taking three wickets each. Only opener Akhilesh (40) put some resistance against the Welingkar onslaught.

Brief Scores: Welingkar 203-5 in 35 overs (Amit Gangal 81, Vinayak 37, Akhilesh 40) bt Somaiya 121 in 30 overs (Manish 40).
