CENTURION SA, JAN 16: South Africa, fired by a five-wicket haul from paceman Allan Donald, dismissed West Indies for 144 before building a a lead of 269 on the second day of the fifth and final test today.

At the close the home side, bidding to become the first team to inflict a 5-0 series defeat on West Indies, were 100 for one in their second innings. Paceman Allan Donald took five for 49 8212; his 17th five-wicket Test haul 8212; as West Indies suffered yet another collapse on this dismal tour to be dismissed in 47.1 overs. Only captain Brian Lara provided any resistance, hitting 68 in 77 balls.

Lara8217;s dismissal started a collpase of seven wickets for 42 runs in seven overs as the visitors succumbed to a barrage of short-pitched deliveries.The West Indies8217; problems were compounded when paceman Courtney Walsh, who claimed six wickets in South Africa8217;s first innings, limped off with an injury threeballs before the close.
