Mumbai, May 24: Naval Dockyard scored a solitary goal victory over Naigaum Police Headquarters in a first-round tie of the Air-India Trophy football tournament, organised by MDFA, at the St Xavier8217;s ground, Parel, today.

It was Naigaum Police who began with a flourish. They combined well and had the Dockyard defence in all sorts of trouble. They had the first goal view in the 20th minute but Rajesh failed to capitalise on a centre from the left by Uday.

Dockyard had a lone good chance of wresting the lead in the first-half. But unfortunately for them, a powerful attempt by Anthony George sailed inches off the target.

The second-half was interesting as both the teams dished out some good football. Naigaum Police had the upperhand but the Dockyard defenders stood firm in the time of crisis.

The all-important goal came in the 56th minute. Anthony George harnessed Simon Fernandes with a long pass. Simon neatly took the ball down the left and was kicked by a Naigaum Police defender in the process. RefereeXavier Faria gave advantage as Simon was still in possession of the ball, and Simon made the most of the chance by beating Police goalkeeper Murthy from close.
