Uttar Pradesh Police launched the ‘YAKSH App’ on the first day of ‘Police Manthan’, a two-day conference of senior officers, at the police headquarters in Lucknow on Saturday.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who inaugurated the conference, launched the app to strengthen policing and law enforcement in the state.

Devised with a state-of-the-art system and consolidated data of criminals, the app facilitates the identification of suspicious elements through AI-powered facial recognition and has an AI-powered voice search to assist crime detection and prevention.

Crime GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is a new technology available in the app that analyses crime-related data and users can receive information related to criminals.

In the policing system, constables and sub-inspectors at every police station are assigned a beat where beat personnel verify criminal background by visiting their native place and wherever necessary, they interact with neighbours and family members.

The app will strengthen the beat policing system and ensure accountability.

The app will also enable effective monitoring and prevention of criminal activities of mafias, history-sheeters, habitual offenders, and wanted criminals carrying a bounty.

The app will also help the beat personnel prepare a list of top 10 criminals with transparency.

While handling an incident of heinous crime and moving for prompt resolution, the database in the app will enable immediate identification of potential suspects, their latest status, and instant information about the police personnel responsible for monitoring the suspects concerned. Once a chargesheet is filed in a case registered on CCTNS, details of the accused will automatically be reflected on the app.

The app will also expedite the procedures of verification of licensed firearms and ammunition, and has a provision of category-wise colour coding of accused persons.

The app provides a scoring mechanism for accused persons based on the sensitivity of the crime committed, time of occurrence, and weapons used, enabling categorisation and focused monitoring.

It also has a provision, whereby, if during verification an accused shifts his residence to another location, the beat personnel can submit a report, upon which an alert will be automatically sent to the personnel of the new destination.

DGP Rajeev Krishna said, “The YAKSH app comes with an advanced gang analysis option, which makes it easier to identify criminals who operate together. Instead of manually scrolling through FIRs and other documents, the app uses AI to track people involved in joint criminal activities and presents them as organised gangs, facilitating effective action.”
