The Delhi High court asked the Central Board of Secondary Education CBSE on Monday to submit by September 15 the committee report on the process of verification of examination marks. The court also directed the petitioners 8212; All India Lawyers Union AILU 8212; to file a rejoinder to the CBSE affidavit. In a petition moved through counsel Ashok Aggarwal, AILU had accused the central board of not evaluating answer books with 8220;all seriousness8221; as random sample checks in some subjects showed a variation in marks.

The bench reminded the petitioner that there was no provision for revaluation of answer books unless there was prima facie on first impression element to show that the evaluation was not done according to the rules and guidelines.

Poetry award
Sanjay Kundan, a Patna-based poet, is the recipient of the 1998 Bharat Bhushan Agarwal Award for his poem Ajnabi Shahar Mein8217; published in the October-December issue of Hindi magazine Pal-Pratipal. The award, instituted in 1979, is given annually for the best Hindi poem published during the year by poets below 35 years of age.

Cardiology meet
A conference on cardiology, organised by INA New Delhi branch president Rajiv Garg, was held in the Capital on Sunday. Over 250 doctors and cardiologists discussed disorders like hypertension, diabetes mellitus and heart attack and ways of preventing these.Man falls to death at Tis Hazari
A man fell to his death from the second floor of the Tis Hazari court on Monday afternoon. He landed in the deserted Central Hall near the canteen, which seats advocates who don8217;t have regular chambers. The man died on the spot. Identified as Roop Singh, 40, the deceased had a note in his pocket that said: 8220;Mai kalyug ka saccha desh bhakt hu8221;. The police also recovered a religious booklet from his pocket. The incident occurred around 12.15 p.m. when Singh was sitting on the railing of the second-floor balcony. The body has been sent to the Subzi Mandi mortuary for a post mortem.

Heroin worth Rs 17 crore seized
Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted a truck and seized 17 kgs of heroin, valued at Rs 17 crore, in the international market. The truck, bearing Maharashtra number plate, was intercepted at the G.T. Karnal Road in Siraspur. The heroin was concealed in plastic bags in the driver8217;s cabin.

According to the directorate, all the packets bore markings to indicate its Pakistani origin. Truck owner Angrez Singh has been apprehended. This is the fifth such seizure made by the department this year, amounting to a total of 61 kg of heroin seized.
