
Young and elderly in step with each other
Even as clouds of uncertainity loom over venue for the Lucknow Mahotsav, the Youth Festival, an integral part of the Mahotsav , kick started with its prelimnary rounds in the city on Friday. The venue for the preliminary rounds is one of city8217;s heritage structures, the Ganga Prasad Verma Memorial Auditorium. The prelims will be conducted till November 26, followed by finals from November 27 .
The first day event was unique in that for the first time young girls from the Leelavati Munshi Bal Grah orphanage and elderly women from the State Old Age Home were brought together to perform on stage. The first of its kind programme was titled aptly 8216;young meets old8217; and was a brainchild of convenor of the youth festival, Mayank Ranjan. 8220;While orphanage children need love and tender care, inmates of the old age home need to express love. That8217;s why we decided to bring them together for this performance,8221; he said.
While the young girls stole the show dancing to 8216;Des Rangila8217; from Fanaa, the grannies enjoyed themselves with a simple but appealing dance the title song of Om Shanti Om. The young and elderly both enjoyed every moment of stepping out of their respective homes to meet each other. 8220;They have been practising for the past one week and the elderly women have even adopted these girls as their grand daughters,8221; said Ranjan.
The other events of the day included prelims of filmi dance solo senior and junior for which over a 100 entries were recieved.
