The intrinsically secular fabric of India has received a resounding endorsement in the American press following the serial killings by terrorist bombings in Mumbai: 8220;At JJ Hospital about 200 people, Hindu and Muslim alike, lined up to donate blood8221; 8212; for those injured The New York Times, August 26. If terrorists imagine they can succeed in targeting any particular community in the highly cosmopolitan cities of India like Mumbai, they are sadly mistaken: 30 per cent of the injured happen to be Muslims.

The terrorists had probably hoped that the entire 8220;business8221; will come to a standstill in the financial capital. Here again they were proved wrong.

First I would like to condemn this ghastly act and all such acts which are carried out in the name of revenge. I agree completely that there are Islamic terrorists active in the world but I don8217;t agree that there is no other group that is carrying on atrocities against one or other community.

Seeds of conflict

I am an 18-year-old student and admire your newspaper for publishing the most exhaustive and impeccable collection of ground-breaking stories and articles. I am, of late, very disturbed by the emergence of religious leaders in the political arena resulting in the riots in Gujarat, parts of Maharashtra and the emergence of Ayodhya and Bhojshala issues in politics. Our nation is in grave danger of falling into the hands of political and religious terrorists. Today we Indians have to unite to fight against not only foreign terrorist organisations and our neighbour, Pakistan, which has been the hotbed of international terrorism, but also against the Togadias and the Singhals and the major political parties exploiting the Hindutva and Ayodhya issues for their political benefit. Religious terrorists are sowing the seeds for future conflicts, endangering India.

Our bad cheque

Apropos of the article, 8216;Dream on, for the future8217; IE, August 27, India indeed has a bad cheque it needs to honour. Don8217;t know how long it is going to take her to do that. I am hoping that the new, freer economy will make the resulting meritocracy edge out the shackles of the caste system 8212; first in the office environment in the cities and eventually everywhere. I know this might sound like a naive fantasy!

Eye-opener

After the ASI report it is time the media recognises that Muslim invaders did indeed demolish temples and places of worship and learning of Hindus. Thousands of these massive and impressive structures were abolished to crush the religion and ensure that Islam was imposed on the Indian people.

Dangerous for Delhi

It appears Madan Lal Khurana, the self-styled 8220;expectant8221; CM of Delhi 8216;Do us a favour8217;, August 27 is capable of 8220;delivering8221; goods of every description, ranging from the metro rail to CAS-exemption. His ill-timed enthusiasm could be dangerous for Delhi. But he should be given a chance so that he can finally be discarded.
